Case Studies :

Economic and Social Impact
Magic Millions

The Magic Millions is one of Australia’s premier horse sale and racing events, and the first each year in the racing calendar. It is a major tourism drawcard for the Gold Coast. Our economic impact analysis helped the Queensland Government decide to allocate extra funding to improve racing infrastructure on the Gold Coast.

Queensland and New South Wales Backpacker Associations

Our economic/policy analysis and submissions helped the $2.7 billion QLD and NSW backpacker industry secure government support to combat the illegal provision of backpacker accommodation.

Competition Policy
New South Wales Charter Cruise Industry

Government service provision subsidised by the tax payer that is offered in competition with private services can reduce competition and distort markets. The volatile nature of tourism markets can make this a significant problem. Our economic/policy analysis and submissions helped the NSW charter cruise industry ensure that government funded ferry services act consistently with competition policy and law, and that the government did not assume responsibility for ticketing services.

Government Funding/Strategy
Dreamworld

Dreamworld is one of Australia’s leading theme parks and tourist destinations. It wanted government support to develop an iconic tourism product that blends and showcases Australia’s unique native animal and Indigenous heritage. This was a first for grand scale tourism in Australia. The business case, policy submissions and public affairs strategy we developed helped Dreamworld win one of the few Strategic Investment Tourism Grants in Australia worth $1 million.
